Upon completion of the tactics described in this educational initiative, learners will be able to:

Recall and list the social determinants of health and their potential impacts on patient health outcomes.
Explain the concept of cultural competence and describe how cultural differences can affect patient-provider interactions and perception of care.
Utilize strategies to enhance patient health literacy, including employing the teach-back method and providing materials at appropriate literacy levels.

This course focuses on integrating health equity into clinical practice by addressing social determinants of health and cultural competence. Learners will explore how social factors influence patient outcomes and develop strategies to navigate cultural differences in care. Emphasis will be placed on improving patient communication, enhancing health literacy, and fostering a more inclusive healthcare environment. By the end, participants will have practical tools to better serve diverse patient populations.

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of rheumatology nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Other healthcare providers may also participate.

Rheumatology Nurses Society is accredited with distinction as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (Provider No. P0500).

Participants will receive 1.0 hours of continuing nursing contact hours by completing the education, completing an online evaluation, and receiving a post-test score of 70%.

According to the disclosure policy of the Rheumatology Nurses Society, all faculty, planning committee members, editors, managers, and other individuals who are in a position to control content are required to disclose any financial relationships with ineligible companies. All educational materials are reviewed for fair balance, scientific objectivity, and levels of evidence, and any relevant financial relationships are mitigated.

There are no fees to participate in the activity. Participants must review the activity information including the learning objectives and disclosure statements, as well as the content of the activity. To receive CNE contact hours for your participation, please complete the post-test (achieving a passing grade of 70% or greater), and program evaluation. Your certificate can be downloaded and printed immediately.
