This enduring activity provides a comprehensive overview of glucocorticoid therapy in rheumatologic disease, including mechanisms of action, clinical indications, dosing strategies, and risk mitigation. Emphasis is placed on balancing therapeutic benefit with potential adverse effects and supporting safe, evidence-based use in clinical practice.
Upon completion of this activity, learners will better be able to:
- Describe the pharmacologic mechanisms and clinical effects of glucocorticoids.
- Identify dose-dependent risks associated with glucocorticoid therapy and appropriate monitoring strategies.
- Apply evidence-based approaches to glucocorticoid use in rheumatologic disease management, including appropriate dosing and administration
The target audience for this forum includes registered nurses (RNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), licensed practical and vocational nurses (LPNs/LVNs), and other healthcare professionals who are engaged in clinical practice, education, research, and advocacy for the care of adult and pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases.
The content of this education will also be applicable to healthcare professionals new to rheumatology, as well as students considering entering the field of rheumatology.
